Don’t Rely On One Income, NYSC DG Advises Corps Members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has enjoined corps members to diversify their income sources, warning that relying on a single source of income might not be sufficient to meet their daily needs.

Nafiu gave the advice while addressing members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Anambra State, according to a post published on the scheme’s official X handle on Monday.

He urged the corps members to use their service year to “acquire relevant skills, develop an entrepreneurial mindset and explore legitimate opportunities for financial growth.”

He also advised them to build lasting relationships beyond the service year and leverage available business opportunities for wealth creation.

“Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments,” he stated.

The NYSC DG further urged the corps members to “embrace diligence and acquire as many skills as possible while they were still young.”

He encouraged them to make “meaningful contributions to their host communities and take pride in the teaching profession by imparting knowledge to members of the communities where they would serve.”

In her camp situation report, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that 1,623 corps members had been registered for the orientation exercise.

“They have been disciplined, cooperative and supportive, voluntarily serving on various committees and contributing positively to the smooth running of the Orientation Camp,” she added.

Ojisua appreciated the director-general for his visit, describing it as a “source of encouragement to both the corps members and camp officials.”
