The wait for the 18th edition of The Headies just got longer, as organisers of Nigeria’s prestigious music awards have postponed the ceremony until April 2027.
The awards, initially scheduled for October 23, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, will now hold on April 10 and 11, 2027, with organisers promising an expanded programme across Nigeria and Canada ahead of the grand finale.
Announcing the change on its official Instagram page, The Headies said the decision aimed to create a broader experience for music lovers and industry stakeholders through activities leading up to the main ceremony.
“The road to the 18th Headies continues. We’re expanding the programme in Nigeria and Canada ahead of our Toronto finale, now scheduled for April 10 and 11, 2027,” the organisers stated.
Despite the postponement, fans will not be left without the excitement of the awards, as the organisers confirmed that Road to The Headies activities will continue throughout the original event window.
They added that they would share updates on the programme and schedule through their official channels.
However, the date change may disrupt travel plans for guests who had already arranged to attend the ceremony in Canada.
Acknowledging the inconvenience, the organisers apologised to affected guests and appealed for their patience and continued support.
“To guests who have already made travel plans and other arrangements, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and continued support,” they said.
Further details about the expanded programme, including guest information and other activities, are expected in the coming months.
The postponement marks another chapter in preparations for the 18th edition of The Headies, which remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent platforms for celebrating achievements in music.
With the new dates set for April 2027, attention will now turn to the activities planned in both countries as the organisers build towards the Toronto finale.
