‘I Won’ –Davido Teases Wike As Adeleke Visits Minister

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, sparked laughter during a meeting between his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja.

In a viral video from the meeting, Davido was seen engaging Wike in a playful exchange, repeatedly declaring, “I won. I beat you guys,” as the minister smiled and disputed the claim.

Wike, seated in a white shirt, responded, “No, no,” before asking, “You beat us?”

Davido maintained his position, replying, “I beat you,” prompting laughter from people around them.

The light-hearted exchange ended with Davido prostrating before Wike and subsequently embracing the minister, drawing cheers and applause from those present.

The interaction has attracted attention online because of the political context surrounding the meeting. Davido was one of the most vocal supporters of Governor Adeleke during the August 15 Osun governorship election and had openly criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government during the campaign.

Adeleke, who contested the election on the Accord Party platform, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.

The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

Following the victory, Adeleke visited President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa before meeting Wike in Abuja.

The meeting with Wike has since generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians interpreting Davido’s “I won” remarks as a reference to the election result, while others viewed the exchange simply as friendly banter between the singer and the minister.

Davido had campaigned vigorously for his uncle ahead of the poll and repeatedly criticised the APC, including declaring that he would never join the party.

He also raised concerns about the conduct of the election and appealed to US President Donald Trump to pay attention to the situation in Osun.

However, Wike, speaking days after the election, attributed Adeleke’s victory to what he described as President Tinubu’s commitment to allowing a free and fair electoral process.

The minister rejected allegations that the Federal Government manipulated the election, insisting that the outcome demonstrated that the democratic process was allowed to take its course.

The viral encounter between Davido and Wike has therefore added a lighter dimension to the political developments surrounding Adeleke’s re-election, with the singer’s repeated declaration of victory becoming the centre of online conversations.
