The Federal Government has commenced construction works on the dualisation of the 56.5km Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road, a major highway linking both Oyo and Ogun States.
The road project, which was flagged off in August 2026 by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, is estimated at N297 billion.
Our correspondent gathered that the contractor, JRB Construction Company, has already moved both the machines and other equipment to the Ibadan end of the road to facilitate the construction process.
Roadside clearance has been carried out along about 750m of the road.
One of the construction workers, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that similar works were ongoing at the Ijebu-Ode end of the road.
He said owners of the affected buildings marked for demolition have been served quit notices.
The project is expected to be completed in June 2029.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State at the flag-off, said the road was part of efforts to improve critical infrastructure for socio-economic development and shared prosperity.
He described the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode corridor as a major economic artery connecting Ibadan, Ijebu-Ode and the Lekki economic axis, with links to other parts of the South-West and the country.
The President said when completed, the road is expected to reduce insecurity, improve the agricultural value chain, and create both direct and indirect jobs for residents of the states.
