The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has faulted allegations of lavish lifestyle by President Bola Tinubu and officials of his administration.
Adedeji, who claimed that the President eats once daily and often walks from his residence to his office, maintained that Tinubu does not live extravagantly.
He made the remarks on Sunday during an interview with Channels Television while responding to questions about the lifestyles of government officials amid rising living costs.
According to NRS boss, Tinubu has not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months and spends most of his time working.
“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy,” he said.
Adedeji also dismissed concerns over the number of luxury vehicles reportedly attached to the Tinubu’s convoy, arguing that the President of Nigeria could afford such vehicles.
“How much is an Escalade that the President of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country,” Adedeji said.
He further contended that Tinubu rarely attends social events.
Adedeji added that the President spends his time reviewing official documents and attending to government business.
“What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country; trekking and working.”
“The President eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?” he asked.
