Afrobeats singer Tekno has defended the viral ‘Olodo Uprising’ trend, saying Nigerians now prefer goofy, brain-rot content to intellectual content.
Tekno, whose real name is Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, spoke during a chat with Yanga FM Lagos, where he said intellectual content has lost its appeal in the country.
The ‘Pana’ crooner noted that entertainment was never built on intelligence, citing veteran comic actors Osuofia and Mr Ibu as stars Nigerians loved for being goofy.
According to him, people now make money doing the same ‘mumu’ from the comfort of their homes.
“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him just being goofy because that’s interesting,” he said.
“Back in the day, when you dey watch Osuofia and Mr Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu? Now you can do the ‘mumu’ in your house and get paid,” he added.
