Big Brother Naija winner Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has made history by defeating actress Nkechi Blessing to win Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The entertainers, who had hitherto been involved in social media feud, faced off in a bout titled ‘Chaos in the Ring’ on October 2, 2026.
Taking to X shortly after the win, the Reality TV star said the date holds double significance for her, as it also marks the anniversary of her BBNaija victory.
“October 2nd will forever be a special date in my life. Today marks the anniversary of the day I won BBN, and now, years later, I’m celebrating another historic victory becoming the first female boxer to step into this ring and win this fight,” she wrote.
Phyna said her transition from reality TV to boxing reflects her willingness to challenge herself and break barriers.
“From reality TV to the boxing ring, I’ve always been willing to challenge myself, break barriers and prove that there is so much more to Phyna than what people see,” she said.
Phyna dedicated the win to women who have been told they couldn’t achieve their dreams.
“This one is for every woman who has ever been told she couldn’t. We can. We will. And we absolutely should,” she added.
The BBNaija star also thanked the organisers for the opportunity to make history.
“A huge thank you to Balmoral Promotions and Bet9ja for giving me this incredible opportunity to step into a new chapter and make history. October 2nd a date of victory, courage and new beginnings. BBN winner. Boxer. Champion. And this is only the beginning,” she wrote.
