Edo Queens will today, Wednesday, September 2, 2026 face hosts USFA of Burkina Faso Wednesday in a crucial semi-final of the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Ouagadougou.
The Nigerian champions will take on the Burkina Faso side at the Stade du 4 Août, with a place in the final and the opportunity to move closer to securing WAFU-B’s ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League at stake.
Edo Queens progressed to the knockout stage after finishing second in Group B with six points from three matches.
The Benin City side began their campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing AS Garde Nationale of Niger 7-0 before following up with a 3-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas. Those results secured their semi-final place with a match to spare.
However, their perfect start was halted by Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies, who came from behind to beat them 2-1 in their final group game.
Atume Doosuur put Edo Queens ahead in the 11th minute, but Rebecca Assemani equalised shortly after the restart before Milot Pokuaa struck in the 78th minute to complete the comeback for the Ghanaian champions.
The victory enabled Ampem Darkoa to finish top of Group B with nine points, three ahead of Edo Queens.
Edo Queens now face a difficult test against a USFA side that enjoyed an unbeaten group campaign. The Burkina Faso champions underlined their strength by thrashing ASKO de Kara of Togo 5-0 in their final Group A fixture to set up the semi-final against the Nigerian champions.
Despite the setback against Ampem Darkoa, Edo Queens have shown considerable attacking strength in the competition, scoring 11 goals in their three group matches.
Interim head coach Kennedy Boboye believes his players have put the defeat behind them and are mentally prepared for the challenge of facing the hosts.
Boboye said his players would not be intimidated by the expected home support for USFA, insisting that Edo Queens are physically and psychologically prepared to compete for a place in the final.
The Nigerian champions will again look to the likes of Doosuur, Chioma Moses and Esther Inyang to provide the attacking threat as they seek to keep alive their ambition of representing the WAFU-B zone at the continental finals.
The other semi-final will see Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa face FC Dynamique.
